I'm trying to copy my digital photos (around 3gb) to a DVD for obvious back-up reasons - but it seems that I'm constantly being thwarted!

I'm using a program called Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD that cam with the machine I' using. I've also tried this using Nero, with the same frustrating results.

First attempt: using a Sony DVD RW 4.7Gb disc, I inserted the disc, slected the files to be copied and pressed "write". Everything whirred for a few minutes until the process stopped with an error: "Disc not formatted". :spitfire

So I selected the formatting function within the software and everything whirred for a few minutes until the process stopped with the message: "While formatting the medium an error occurred". It didn't tell me what sort of error or how to fix it. :spitfire :spitfire

Threw disc away. Tried another Sony disc - same results.

Bought new pack of discs: Tesco DVD+R 4.7Gb. Only thing open last night and I reckon that Tesco wouldn't sully their brand image by selling crap discs.

Trying to be clever, tought "Ah, I'll format it first". Error message: "Medium is write protected". :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire

Tried to write files to the same disc: "Error: medium is write protected". :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire

Tried another 2 discs from the same pack - same results. ARE THEY REALLY SELLING BLANK DISCS THAT ARE WRITE PROTECTED? THAT WOULD REALLY MAKE SENSE.

I know the drive works as i wrote some files to a CD-RW at the weekend - but the CD capacity is not enough for these files, and I definitely do have a DVD writer in this machine!

HELP.................................please, before something goes out of the window

Yes I have - you been peeking?

Simon
I'll bet it's shagged your Registry settings!!

Greg

PS Dunno how to fix it and messing with the registry is high-risk stuff!

As a temp work-around, try starting windoze in safe mode, make sure you have the drivers for the DVD writer loaded then use windows itself to burn them........

(Insert disc, open explorer window to disc, copy files to window, se;ect 'burn to disc' from menu)

Having tried (and failed ) to get Pinnacle to work properly (after my Roxio stuff went tits up ), I binned it and got an OEM version of Nero 6.3, worked a treat.

Gonzo try using DVD-R.....should not matter really but is a thought....NOt sure how old your burner is........DVD-R is much better anyway i think...
