I'm trying to narrow down my options on improving the seating comfort for (meself and SWMBO) on my R 1200GS, and reckon that the Wunderlich Comfort seat option could be the way to go.

Question is does anyone on here have any experience of using these seats

All advice appreciated.

Yes, but the 1150 version, on one of my loan bikes. Didn't have it for long as everyone complained :D

But it's the same for any seat, it's very subjective -there is no "best seat", it's what suits your arse, some suit a sargeant others a corbin.

Yeah thanks Steptoe, you are right, it is all about it all being down to personal choice.

Its tough though, as there's no real way of trying a seat with yer own arse, and so you can always end up buying something thats even worse than what you already have.

I bought a corbin on a previous bike (GTR) and to be honest it was bloody aweful, sooo, it got sold again.

now there's an idea Hank.. thanks for that....considerably cheaper than the Wunderlich option.

We were out on th ebike last night and it seems that SWMBO is getting used to the GS...so maybe I won't need to change owt after all :beerjug:

An Airhawk is the only way to go in my opinion , on my 1150 I tried standard, standard with gel inserts and a seat rebuilt with orthopedic foam and the result on all of them was agony after less than 60 miles (two hire bikes and a demonstrator were the same) . Add the Airhawk and 500 miles in a day was possible.
If seat height isn't a problem what about 1200 Adventure seats, the front ones have a lot more padding than a standard GS seat and I can do 200 miles in one hit on mine without too much pain, when away though the Airhawk goes on.

thanks Neil... I checked the various websites detailing Airhawk products, and it wouldn't work for me as I have a seat height issue, my legs are plenty long enough, but I have a knackered foot, so I can't manage a higher seat. However the Airhawk would be a consideration for the little lady, and a good looking product, its a bit pricey though at £150.

I've got a Wunderlich Erco seat on my 1100GS and it is the best bike seat I've ever had without question. I have done 800 mile days and not even noticed the seat. My arms, neck and back might ache but never my arse.

Every other bike seat seems dreadful compared to this one. I'm 6 foot 1 inch and weight 14 1/2 stone so have a reasonably big arse.:)

I bought a Wunderlich Kahedo seat and it was like sitting on a plank. Now got a sergeant which is fine. Have used Corbin and found it to be to wide at the front and rock hard. I have recently ridden 5K miles in 2.5 weeks on the SGT seat and was feeling some discomfort (what do you expect) tried my old Airhawk seat and it made no real difference. SGT seats usually make £350 for both the front and rear on the forum. You'r virtually guaranteed to get your money back when you have finished with them.

Hi Neil

I'm looking to buy an Airhawk seat for my 03 1150GS, which has a Wunderlich seat. Whilst I have ridden a few hundred miles on it in a day I did get some discomfort, and now that I'm joining Sgt Bilko's Alaskan Adventure in July this year, I thought an Airhawk would be the way to go, as some of the distances are 500+. :bounce1

However, there's conflicting advice on the size required for an 1150: medium or large - although I'm not large, merely 13 stone weakling in old money!

Also, anyone know of any special offers for the Airhawk, or, as I'm off to the States in a couple of weeks is it any cheaper in the USA? :nenau

All comments welcome.

Bob

I had serious issues with the seat when I first got my GS (June 11). Anything over 20 mins and I suffered greatly.

I investigated loads and loads for seat options.

Then after 3000 miles, the seat became more comfortable. Much more tolerable. Now I can ride for 2 or 3 hours before I feel I need to shift about to get the blood to all the right places. :)

I did find that wearing cotton pants really made me uncomfortable. I bought a couple of pairs of cheap cycling shorts and they helped a lot. One had heavy padding which made no real difference to the comfort.

I've now done 6K miles and I don't have any real issues with the seat. Except that sometimes I lose feeling down there. Obviously lack of blood flow or perhaps vibration. Not nice. But this is the only reason I would consider buying a new seat now.

However, if you or SWMBO rides on the bike less frequently, then it will take too long for the seat to bed in.

I'd think about getting get inserts. About £70 per seat.
