My Wunderlich Vario seat arrived from SPC today. Desperate for a shorter reach to the ground I ordered it in December without seeing one in the flesh as they weren't then available.

I'll post a couple of pictures tomorrow.

So is it worth £275?

In terms of what you get it seems a tad pricey.

In terms of the reassurance of now having the balls instead of the toes of both feet firmly on the ground yes - definately.

It is firm and it doesn't seem to throw the rider forward like the standard seat does.

I must have the perfect bum! I've never found a seat particularly uncomfortable in the nearly thirty something bikes I've had the pleasure of owning and riding high mileages on. So my comfort (or not) impressions may not suit everyone.

I would say this seat is definately lower than the BWM low seat too.

I'll update when the weather recovers enough to have a decent ride on it.

It's okay for you bloody lot!

'I'm just popping into the garage dear to take a couple a snaps of the bike for the boyz on the forum'.

My bike's two miles down the road in an unlit council garage block with a hole in the roof!

And I'm lucky to have that I can tell you.

Tomorrow - I promise ;)

Sounds a very low seat if you can get your balls on the ground mate:D

I'm waiting for the Sergent's seat myself - I've been assured it'll be available by April...

Other seats?

I've decided I need a better seat too, after 8000 miles.

I had my original re-modelled by a chap (who's name right now escapes me) who sometimes frequents this forum. IMHO he did a wonderful upholstery job, but didn't actually fix my complaint which is that the seat is very hard (lacking in foam cover) at the back edge, and forces the rider forwards. Also, perhaps because of this, the rear of the seat seems to be taking a lot more of my weight than the front.

I wonder if anyone has had this problem and solved it? I have looked at the Corbin and Touratec, but not in the flesh. Really I suspect the only way is to be sitting on one, but maybe someone's had the same problem. BTW I'm 6'2", so don't really have a problem reaching the ground.

I have the Corbin and find it MUCH more comfortable than the stock seat, although it is quite firm. It's like sitting on a broad, flat platform, with good support forward and a nice rise in the back to hold you in place but none of the sliding forward that I experienced with the original seat. Problem is, however, that the seat is quite wide at the front, which makes it more difficult to get your feet down, even in the low position. I'm 6"1" with a 32" inseam and I can't get both feet flat on the ground. Also, I have yet to get the latch to engage properly. At the same time, the low position means that my legs are a bit more cramped than they were with the stock seat in its high position, so I'm considering lower pegs.

I've set the seat height adjusters to the high position at the front and the low position at the back. I find this tilts the standard seat back a little and makes things more comfortable in the pants department, But there's a warning in the manual saying explicitly not to do this - so DON'T DO IT!! :D

Thanks Arthurwg, Corbin is one I've got my eye on. However I'm not aware of anyone who stocks them in the UK? I'd really like to sit on one, and preferably have a short ride on one before spending out on a seat that may not suit!

I have got my seat set (contrary to the manual) with the rear in LOW position and front in HIGH, which is the best I've come up with but it still seems to be tipping forwards more than I'd like.

If anyone's got a seat (closer than NYC) which seems to cure this problem, and maybe could let me have a short ride with it on my bike, I'd be very grateful!

Well here's a few piccies of the Wunderlich seat set in its lowest (of 4) positions and the standard seat for comparison:

1st Standard at lowest setting

Then standard seat high front and low back settings

Next Wunderlich set to lowest of its 4 settings

And finally a picture of the brackets that had to be removed from the seat on one side to allow the bolts to be adjusted! Easily sorted though.

As you can see the new seat is very 'bucket' like and holds the rider firmly in place.

That wall's on the piss - looks like your garage is about to fall down!!

Well what a change, actually got a dry day to clean the bike. 2nd time in three months!

Just an update on the seat. Went for a spin and although it's firm it is very supportive and comfortable - it felt really good. Absolutely no tendanced to throw the rider forward like the standard seat.

And in the real world manoeuvring the bike on cambers etc was soooo much easier so I'm very pleased with it. Well worth the price IMHO. The lower seat was the priority and the improved comfort is a real bonus.

Now for the Remus and the TT bits to arrive and I'll I need is a decent hugger - until I think of something else that is.

With that dip in the middle you may be right about getting your balls down after all!
