OK, I'm just thinking here..... but is anyone using a 16 tooth front sprocket instead of the stock 15t, ie to reduce engine revs on roads trips......?

yes ... I take a 14, 15 and 16 with me when I am on a big trip.

I use the 16s on the asphalt bits. 15s for most of the gravel and flat off road stuff and only change down to the 14 for much more intense stuff.

The bike hoots along the highway with a 16T. Across Europe I find myself able to sit on 80mph (by GPS), about 87 or so by speedo, for 8 - 10 hours a day, every day.

If you are going to put in an order at Talon and pay for p&p anyway, its just as easy to order a couple of different sizes I find.

I'm after one of them as well as mine is currently a bit of a commuter bus as the moment. I thought Wemoto did one but it's no longer listed. Will try Talon.

Got a 16T on mine. Makes long slogs so much nicer. My bike has a fairing so sitting at 85 no hassle. Not sure how that works out on a standard X.

Got my 16T from Stefan. Slightly dearer (but only pennies) that Talon etc. but it's made of steel and lasts so much longer.

Wha'.......?
Stefan sells front cogs for 14 euro+p&p, Talon sells them for £7.70-ish +p&p...... that's about 600 pennies difference on item price, nevermind the p&p.

And what other material have you seen a front sprocket for this application made of?...........:nenau

Timpo.

17 t front sprock

running a 17 CCM one with std rear ratio , no problems apart from occasional lack of a blip (stall) to get it over kerbs when cold and dropping a cog on a big steep one
nice n easy on long highway runs though.
