looking for a x challenge rack....to put a small tent and or a bag on.....which ones looks and is the best...opinions welcome....

I've got both the TT large rack and the Hepco & Becker rack.

The TT large rack is good because it's flat which gives you a few options on how to secure your load of various shapes/sizes, but there is a recommended weight limit, which is 5kg IIRC.

However, I normally run with the H&B setup. It's a strange shape, but has 2 handles built in that can be used to lift/pull the bike, and I normally use the seat side to secure my tool bag (which is a fair weight) to sit on the rear end of the seat, which leaves the rear 'flat' area to secure any lighter misc items, which has included a small tent and roll mat in the past. Same recommended weight limit for the H&B, but I also have the H&B pannier frames that fit quite quickly should I need to use panniers or offer support to the subframe to carry any extra weight.

I think I also have a small TT rack which came on a bike, but never used it in favour of one of the above.

I've been using a small TT rack, i've had it on the bike for 5 or 6 years now. Did a bit of a trip across the states last summer, and made up this alluminium plate which i bolted on top of the TT rack to improve carrying capacity. It looks a little bit bent now, but the rack is still fine, and all the mounting holes still line up.

Normally it just has a Kriega US5 with tool roll strapped to the rack.

GFJ would you be interested i selling the large tt rack?......and thank you both for your posts

Contact Mark Hooton at www.cymarc.co.uk. Mark made a stainless steel rack for my Xch, it is just wide enough to cover the exhaust. It takes a roll bag without any trouble and there is no fear of it touching the exhaust.

Thanks for offer but I'll be keeping it for the time being.

Bilko's point about the exhaust is worth noting, you may have to rig something to keep your kit off it.

And when Nathan (Lost the plot) says he did "a bit of a trip" . . . .:eek
