OK, so it's possibly a dumb question but does the whole airbox have to come off to get to the plug (i.e. from the top)? Is there an easier way in from the side?
Twin plug it is!. Some have said that they can access the outside plug in the case of hydrolock with a ring spanner 18mm . Removing the horn and diagnostic connect would hel but it would still be a test of dexterity and patience. I replaced my plugs(NGK DR 8 EB) the other day and had to remove the air box. It looks a bit daunting at first but once you have done it a couple of times its a snap . You'll want to check your valve clearances next
I also found that your average over the counter tube spanner isnt long enough to reach the plugs. I made a custom extension
The other thing to watch out for is the sparkplug caps, bmw make a special tool to remove them , but if you improvise your own, be careful
I spoke to the BM mechanic at Clarkes in Brum today.
He confirmed it is a twinspark and that the second plug is in line with and behind the one you can see near the horn. He also said the airbox has to come off to get at both.
Ah we love a creek crossing though
