I have a weeping fork seal in my XC.

I've replaced fork seals on marzocchi forks before, but these were on the conventional magnums.

With the USD's on the XC, do i strip the forks by removing the cap on top of the fork leg, and pushing the slider back into the lower leg, as i would have done with the conventional magnums??

i've just been looking at this microfiche:

http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?mospid=50282

From this it looks as though the dampers have been turned upside down as well, so i would need to remove part number 3 listed here:

and then just undo the damper rod from inside and release the spring pressure?

Also does anyone have any tips for a cheap seal driver? I used to used a bit of 2" waste pipe on the last set of forks, but these didn't have to be slid over the axle mount on the fork leg?

Just had a quick look around and a specialist driver costs around £50..

i Would do, but the dealer has informed me that if may not be covered if it has been used off road ffs.....:spitfire

Can anyone point me in the direction of a definitive list of what parts I will need to buy to change the fork oil seal (also where to get them from - I assume not BMW:augie)? Is it worth changing both of them at the same time?

TIA

Nigel

You can use Ariete seals:
Ariete ari120 - inner
Ariete ari081 - outer

Outer seals kit is aprox ~10-12 EUR and as you will dismount both forks anyway its not too much of additional cost or additional time to get them both replaced in same time.

Phase one is complete. Have changed the leaky one - easier than I thought - and just need to get some fork oil so that I can turn my unicycle back in to an X-Challenge.
