During an entertaining ride out with bakerman on sunday, there were a few occassions when my XChallenge wouldn't start.

Normally it starts within a few turns of the starter, but trying to get up one particularly snotty climb (the first time i've had to get off and push in a long time), i tried starting the bike.

Despite turning over, the bike showed no signs of life at all.....not even a bang or pop from the exhaust.

I tried bumping it back down the hill, but still nothing (probably something to do with not getting enough grip to turn the motor over). At the bottom i had a break for 5 minutes, after which the bike fired up not problem at all, and continued to be trouble free for the rest of the day :nenau

Now the bike has done less than 2k miles, and is just under 18 months old.

Any suggestions?? i've considered the clutch and side stand switch, but normally if either aren't in the required position, then the bike won't turn over at all.

something stuck in the throttle body??

thanks,

nathan

My igntion barrel failed after 5k miles, no doubt due to the bashing it got from 75% of that being offroad.

It started to cut out intermittently, and not starting reliably. I thought it was side stand or fuelling, but I noticed that there was play in the key position and if I cable tied it (the key) in place it worked. So it got replaced under warranty.

Try turning the ignition off and then on again with the bike in neutral
Open the throttle wide and let it 'snap shut'
Turn off ignition and then back on again
Then hit the starter - should start
That lets the ECU reset itself:augie

I picked up my 2008 X challenge last weekend, and rode it some 700kms home, stopping overnight at halfway point to let me numbnuts recover! Riding mainly on the autoroute at around 70mph, filling up every hour or so, stopping at petrol stations or using a jerry can. The times when I used the jerry can and the bike was only stopped for a couple of minutes, the bike just turned over and over, no spark, nothing. Turned the ignition off, back on, bike started first go :nenau.

I smacked the sidestand switch off a rock, that stopped the bike wrapped the wires together till I got the replacement. :thumb2
I've had the clutch switch replaced three times, the second and third the bike didn't even get outside the garage, fine now. :thumb
