The PC consistently falls over then restarts after coming out of hibernation. I get to select the user then it after it displays the desktop it restarts.

I can't find anything on the Microsoft knowledge base about it.

Any ideas???

Cheers

Could be several things Dick....but it does sound like you have 'reboot automatically'' selected from the recovery options.....I can't remember exactly where it is (i'll have a look in a sec) but you can get the PC to show you the BSOD that it's not at the moment (then you have to ok it before it restarts) ....the BSOD will have a code that you can track down the culprit from.

Sounds like a power issue though...the HD's aren't powering up after hibernation??

Have a fiddle with your power settings under control panel.

There's a file called "hiberfil.sys" sitting in the root of your C: directory, which will be roughly the same size as the amount of RAM you have installed, and which can get corrupted. I'd try going into your power options, disabling hibernation, reboot, check if hiberfil.sys is still there (it should be deleted automatically, but if not, delete it), reboot, power options again, re-enable hibernation, reboot (pauses for breath) then try hibernation again...! This'll only work if your hyberfil.sys is corrupt, and it's the only way I can think of to check.

Thats what I would do - I won't be held responsible if anything goes wrong etc etc etc!! :D

You should probably fit those crash bars that you bought last year :D

Thanks guys, I'll investigate the suggestions when I haven't just drunk a bottle of wine (bloody 'ell that probably means I'll never do it - a bit like fitting the crash bars then!) :D

If all else fails, try checking the power management settings in your BIOS.

Active Power Management is the mother of all evils.

Follwed the suggestions above but it's still doing it. Disabled hibernation and now it does it after coming out of standby............

Fugg, fugg, fugg, fugg, fuggg.......

bodgy solutions:

Unfortunately it's been going on so long that I can't remember when it started happening so I've no idea where to go back too.

Cheers

go back 6 months. you won't lose any files, just any progs or settings made in that time.

you can always go back to your present restore point. er, probably.
