Has anybody got a buckshee Windows XP pro or Home operating disc?

My daughter has managed to completly screw up her computer and I seem to have lost the XP CD.

It keeps restarting when you try and log on and I believe it to be a Spyware/Trojan issue (read it on one of those geek forums :thumb2)

I think I will end up formatting it and starting again as it has been running very slow and unstable for a while and she is doing my head in as she can't chat to her bloody mates on MSN

Helpppppppp!!!!!!!!!

Do you have the license key still for her computer ??
If you do then just download a copy from a torrent site and burn it to disk and intall it with her key

Not sure about that chap. I brought the machine second hand and it was already pre-loaded.

Run your virus scanner at boot time and it should sort things out.

I use Avast! and it works for me.

Then download and run Windows Defender and something like SpyBot and let them run.

I'd reload everything as a last resort - she'll loose some important essay or something as I bet the computer has no backup.

Thats just the problem chap. I can't log on. Everytime I try it states it's loading personnal settings and then logs off straight away.

I have tried the F8 key at boot up and tried safe mode etc but it keeps just logging me off

I wouldn't rely on this...........Dell PC's tend to accept any Dell XP disc when rebuilt, but non Dell machines are very sticky about having their original disc and while it will load OK, the operating system may fail to validate. DAMHIK.....

dont know how computer savvie you are but, try buying a copy of a linux magazine or going to a computer shop and picking up a free or very cheap live cd with Linux on.
You can then boot from the dvd drive and it will give you a system that runs, most will automaticaly detect your internet connection, you can then download whatever you like. From a bittorrent site.

Make sure the version you are getting is for you machine ie Home or Pro. Then burn a copy to disk and boot from that and use the system recovery option. You should get the option to install or repair current installation.

If you think you have a virus then use an anti virus product that will boot and repair from the CD, I believe that Kaspersky will and probably most of the big names should. Either that or use one of the on line virus checkers again Kaspersky offer one so do trend and bitdefender but I am sure that all the big names do the same.

I had this problem with one of my PC's... spent ages trying to get cracked copies of XP up and running but kept running into problems when Service packs was trying to load up :blast . Eventually bit the bullet and bought a legit copy of XP for about £55 quid. everything hunky dory after that :thumb .

the licence key number should be underneath the computer on a microsoft sticker type thing, with a 16 digit series of leters and numbers.

if you have this still then download a copy of xp
and follow instructions.

take hard disc out slave to another pc and virus scan it it will be just reading a bunch of files should sought it if its a virus Trojan :)
