Apparently SP2 will be out very very soon......lots of people seem to be saying that it's going to cause problems, rendering various applications incompatable.......

XP SP2

Nice one
The article is very interesting and bloody frightening, as there seems to be a lot more to SP2 than most people ie the cumputer pundits thought

My version of Xp tells me there's an update and "click her to install", so I assume my auto update is not on?

in fairness, people said that about SP1 too, might even have been true in isolated cases. personally i'd wait until it's been about a week or two and see if there are any real problems.

it is a major update, with new firewall for one thing. includes much needed pop-up stopper for IE as well.

BTW it will not install on PC's running dodgy copies of XP if they are using blacklisted keys (same as SP1). expect surge of interest in keychangers ;)

i wouldn't want auto update just D/Ling & installing stuff willy nilly anyhow. set it to notify you of updates & install manually is best IMHO.

ps. latest info i have suggests SP2 out august/september

every time I run any updates on XP my computer tells me I need ( or the message does) it messes with it and nothing works properly again. I now never say yes to these messages. Am I doing the right thing ?.

Bad Boy!!
As a network admin, if you were on my network I would be beating you with a wet noodle.
Seriously, those updates are important, more so if your computer is connected to broadband, and always on. Have someone figure out why you are having problems with the updates, and get you system up to date.
