Anyone know ought about Onda's ?
Mates got one that constantly over heats, its been rebuilt more time than I can remember he's swapped top ends, bottom ends, CDI's, pick ups.
The only thing he hasn't swapped is the frame, is it possible there's a blockage in the oil tank ?

xr,s get v v hot anyway, if there was a blockage, itd sieze up, ant much , other than cam timing, valve clearance etc, not likely that the cdi is faulty, they usually work or fail, does it have an oil cooler? they are better with one and easily fitted

Don't think it's got a cooler, Its an 1984 or their abouts originally had a drum front end, now swapped for a disc set up. It gets hot enough to cut out.
He's been mucking about with this Onda for the last 3 or 4 years. He's bought a XBR500 and a XL600 to canabilise for parts. And to be honest I cant remember what bits of the engine are original. Thing is he's a competent mechanic himself but can't suss out whats wrong with the little Orange ferker.

:eek:cuttin out, now thats hot,
oil cooler can be fitted in the external line, up to the cams, if i remember rightly,
if u dont have a standard un, running filters?could be weak, especially on the twinned carb models...
a problem hard to diagnose on a forum, and even harder if its not standard,
check the cam again, if its a 600 one it may be timed different??
brings back memorys, had a few of these, plus 600,s etc, fekin great bike,s

I use to run an XR500R years ago in the Middle East, never let me down and never had an issue with overheating, absolutely brilliant bikes - :thumb

The strange thing with this bike is its been in every configaration of the engines he's had XR500 stock XR bottom end with XBR top end XL600 top end and a mix and match of all of the above, with various cams CDI's pick ups etc. And in every configuration it over heats :nenau

My suggestion was , sell the bloody thing !
