Stripping the carbs on an 82 xs1100 to get them ultrasonic cleaned, everything was going according to plan till I removed the air mixture screws, two came out fine, two came out with out the very tip. When I rub my finger inside the body I can feel the tip protruding. Tried gently to push back up with a screw driver but no luck, don't want to bend the brass top either as I could be in deeper sh!t. Plan tonight is to stand carb bodies on the stove for an hour with some wd40 to see will the heat release them. Any other ideas?* they ware obviously over tightened at some stage.

I'd probably get them cleaned first, it may be just petrol gum sticking them in place.

I've been helping my mate restore his xs over the last year (i work and he stands around making the odd coffee) if i recall correctly from the clymer manual those screws are factory set and should not be touched, like the butterfly screws on the gs.

bit too late for that. Guess I should invest in a manual.

I've just sold on ebay, before christmas, a fuel injection set up for an XS1100, got £35 i think:blast

I'd have given it to a Tosser:rolleyes:

Edit to say that they run really well with flat slide mikuni's, and there was a guy that sold a kit that fitted two twin choke Delorto carbs to XS's and GS's (suzuki)

Just to let Ye know, I made an absolute balls of that set of carbs. Ended up bending the tip, so almost rivetting it in. But on the bright side, had a second set, actually the first set I got on the bike, and they are in better nic than the replacement pair I bought. Should have checked them before assuming they were knackered! And on that note, just bought a replacement oem air filters for the Gs, opened the air box and was greeted with a big k and n sticker.

Too late, opened them up to change jet sizes and raise the needle. Probably could do with rubbers , they are steel right up to the jubilee clip (under the rubber of course), so gonna try seal they with something first. Trying to not spend a fortune on this one.

my mate an an xs with a sidecar on and we had no end of bother with his carbs. first thing, check inside the fuel tank for rust, next check the drain hole just under the filler cap which is to get rid of rainwater that finds its way into the filler opening, a bit of crud in there blocks the hole and it fills with water whenever it rains. youn wont ever see it because its hidden when the fuel cap is shut, and when you unlock the cap all the water instantly runs into the tank, ruting it from inside.
finally, the stock xs carbs are pretty crap, we had the same issue with the tips breaking off, best thing to do is source some fj1200 carbs off ebay and fit them, the jetting is pretty much spot on ass tock, but the fj carbs had the odd effect of giving him better fuel consumption and more power, go figure!! the carb spacings are the same as the xs, and i think all we had to do was alter the throttle cable.
