XT600 gutless?

A mate has acquired an 03 plate XT600. It feels weak when accelerating, getting up to about 80mph top speed. My old KLR600 felt so much quicker, and that wasn't brilliant.

Any ideas, or is this what is expected?

Mate of mine used to have one, he loved it, but it was mega slow, 80 tops sounds about right!

I had 2 SR500's back in the day - not really sure why, but hey.

First one was the first model '79 with wire wheels, - i put an open goldie on it and it was really quick for what it was.

After a spell of a couple of years i bought another, this one was a later model 82 with the cast wheels - i put the same pipe on it and would only hit 95mph.

therefore - all the the wire wheeled models were more faster and more powerful.
Its now on the iinterweb so it must be true
