I've been offered this 'wee' late 70s/early 80's stroker for messing around the farmyard on and teaching my nephew to ride etc!

Starts, stops, two stroke pump works as it should does eveything it should and the bike is mostly complete apart from rear lights, mirrors and indicators.

Plastics are all there, seats intact and it starts first kick and needs a good clean and tidy up but could be worth spending a few hours in the shed on these dark cold winters nights.

Anybody remember one of these?

FP.

I had one in the nineties, like a pushbike on steroids!

It was derestricted, went like the proverbial for such a wee bike, great fun on the soft stuff...:thumb

DT125..... OK, I'm with you til then, but the 'X'? Are you sure it's not 'MX'?

The MX was air cooled, and came in two major guises, the earlier having a round section swingarm and the later a mono-cross type box section swinger, though both were single rear shock.

There was then the DT125LC, using an Italian engine, which with a little work became a rocket.
I do believe they made a road going supermoto styled machine that was known as the DT125X, with small front and wider wheels than the trail bikes, so if your bike has a 17" front then it could be one of them....? :nenau

I loved the Yams, and from 15 to 18 years old owned a few:-
DT100E
DT50MX
DT175MX (reg'd as 125) ;)
DT125LC mk1

I'd love to be able to find a 250 or 400 'MX'......:drool they were my dream bike as a kid (next to the XR600R, which I have one of here in the shed).

DT125X.... Is this it?

Your right It's an MX and i just forgot the 'M' the X is that new thing!.................!:blast

What's the value on these things from scrapper, crapper to snapper?

I think mines in the 'crapper' category but it seems to work and i won't need to worry about dropping it anytime soon! I think it'll have spent a bit of time 'hooring' across someones farm so it was a 'barn find' when I first saw it last year and before that it was a 'shed find'............!:nenau!

Like I say, starts and farts first or second kick and idles well enough, the clutch and gears work and the exhaust doesn't leak apart from where it's supposed to although it has been welded here and there and as a bonus the brakes work in that they slow you down which wouldn't be too difficult judging by the ponies in the mill. The mill is dirty and oily as oposed to just being dirty.........The spindly suspension works too but it's slightly overwhelmed by my tosser physiche and the tyres are good and hold air in them!

Someones painted the tank white to match the mudguards and the sidepanels are orange over black and dirt which doesn't really match anything. There's no ignition key and the headlight doesn't work either. There's no rear light so i wouldn't know if it worked or not! No mirrors or indicators either but the plastics are all good and dirty white in that they could be worse and they aren't cracked either. The seats not torn but it's dirty orange and has Yamaha on it and the wheels look like they'll clean up with dirty black hubs and dirty chromed rims, the spokes are just plain dirty. All the switchgear is present and the kill switch works although it's dirty aswell. The rev counter and speedo work amazingly and the bike also has a horn but i'm not sure if it works but at least it's dirty and matches the rest of the bike!

I like my bikes to be in 'pristine' condition but i do have a weakness for the occaisional 'shitter'..........!:blast

The 'DT' air cooled range is staging a bit of a revival, with people snapping up the 'shed finds' and reurning them to their former glory.
There is also an increase of imports coming from the States as projects or ready to ride retros.
It would be a shame if you have a runner and to hear of it run in to the ground and scrapped, engines, exhausts frames and fuel tanks are all fetching good prices on the ebay marketplace.

Post up some piccies.....:thumb2

I have had a couple of 175`s over the years. Great bikes.
I can`t say I have seen any real increase in the selling prices of these yet, although I don`t doubt it will happen before long.
I reckon a shitter field bike that runs is worth about £300, a decent running project with a few bits missing that is road registered (or at least is registerable) is probably £400 to £500. Even tidy MOT`d ones are only around the grand mark.
There have been a few very very nice restored 175`s on ebay lately and I haven`t seen one actually sell for over £1500 although some have been advertised for more than that.
The problem with 125`s is that they will cost exactly the same to restore as the 175 so I can`t see th epoint of doing one, unless it is for a learner. A 125 reg`d bike with a 175 top end would be a pretty nice learner I guess.:thumb2

My first bike ridden on the road ever, was a DT 250. Had it as soon as I hit 17 past my test on it and rode it all over the place. Them were the days :rob I would have another

I had a 250MX and it was a disappointment to me. The 175's were lighter and as quick.

Even though I had it ported etc by Terry Beckett Tuning it still struggled to keep up with my mates XR250

Got it on my 17th birthday, passed my test 6 months later then sold it to a mate and bought an R plate Suzuki GT750
