right, i have been offered a yam ty250, it has a log book, but seems its not been on the road for a very long time.
there are no lights or brake lights nor speedo, it starts first kick and runs fine, but its in a fairly shabby state as its been used as a field bike.

£400 is it too much???? as i cant think its going to cost the earth to put back on the road or am i wrong?:nenau

oh an i dont really do ebay, i cant stand the place tbh, had a couple of problems with sellers so thought fk it.

but cheers anyway

I sold a rough one a couple of years ago for £450 so its probably on its money at £400 ,I would not want to spend to much on it ,great wee trials bike all the same ,plenty fun to be had for £400

Check the spokes - unobtanium Z spokes

If they're damaged/loose/wrecked - walk away - no other spokes can be made to fit those hubs

Check the brake plates - magnesium - rot from inside and collapse - not funny when the casting lugs break off

Similarly the hubs are magnesium and can rot from inside, although they appear fine

Mono TY Pistons are unobtanium now - although twinshock pistons are plentiful

Check the rear linkage for wear (bike off ground and supported under engine, with a stand - pick up rear wheel and check for play) can be very expensive in bearings

Other than that - normal stuff

20 year old bike now and the magnesium can rot from the inside and you can't tell until you remove the wheels

great advice guys, cheers:beerjug:

still, for that money it may just be worth it, unless its a right bag on closer inspection, i didnt get chance for a propa look today.
