It depends on your view of a failure?

Varadero: May be heavier and ugly (like GS) but the FI version is a very good trailie-style tourer. Did a lot of miles around EU in comfort with good weather protection and Honda reliability.

TDM: It's only a "failure" in a UK obsessed with sports bikes. There's plenty of them in just about every other EU country. You need to try a TDM900 before discounting them. They are a very good all round machine. This the bike that BMW copied for the F range of 800 twins.

Tiger: The new 1050 does what it says in the ad "Urban Sports". It's not a new version of the old Tiger. It's a trailie style street-fighter with a fantastic engine. Can't agree with "failure"

Capanord: Ever ridden one? Suprisingly good. Meaty engine that will blow away any GS motor. Very comfy but a bit old fashioned. This may be the only one I'd agree with as a failure, but again only in UK.

Take off the rose-tinted glasses and the GS isn't perfect

Try reading both my previous posts in this thread, I've not mentioned the word "failure" or any of the other bikes you listed with the exception of the Varadero which I still think the Tenere resembles - just my opinion.

FYI I have ridden Capo's, Tigers, TDM's & F800GS. Just because the F800GS is a parallel twin, that doesn't make it a copy of the TDM.

I'm the last person to wear rose tinted glasses, I'm fully aware of the issues affecting all of the bikes I own (1150GS, 950SE & 400EXC).

Great expectations over this bike......"king of the desert....bla bla".

I was too hoping to see something in between the F800GS and KTM Adventure.

IMHO, this resembles the old Varadero with a "GS wannabe" attitude.

My wallet would like to thank Yamaha :thumb ...no risk :D

Then, of course, it should be test ridden.

I am not trying to say the bike would be crap (as a matter of fact, it'll probably run well and be very reliable...), but when I look at it I've got noo feeling and my heartbeat does not move....:nenau

I agree 100% :thumb

Of course, the downside is that being a Yamaha, it probably won't suffer from fuel pump faults, ring antenna issues or final drive failures. So that's a big black mark for the Yam, no character whatsoever!!!! :augie

I think it looks awesome in blue with 3 box luggage but the very first thing i saw was indeed a varadero - but it does look miles better than the 'dero.

Just looks a bit fat and lardy and who put the spots on ? Halfords

Sounds perfect for you then Chris !!!

Feck me. £13.5k on a bike.

I wouldn't spend that on a BMW let alone a frikking plastic fantastic Yamaha. BMs hold thier value so people don't mind coughing up for one. Yamahas don't really as they change then every year.

The weight for the Yamaha is inclusive of water, all oils and 23 litres of unleaded, i.e. ready to roll.

The BM has all this AND 31 litres of fuel - ready to roll - well ok no water so the YAM is still heavier

I recall that the Fazer 1000 appeared at a ridiclous price at its launch ... £8k in about 2002? Madness.

£13k for a Yamaha? I think NOT.

having looked a little closer my view is

for..... the clocks are nice n it looks comfy enough

against....... for an adventure bike theres far to many crap traps and a stripdown every time you want to clean it is a pain. important bits like the rad and electrics look rather vunrable behind the side panels. the wheels have some double rib idea so it can use tubeless tyres but the downside is they would fill with crap an rust like crap. plus a big lump of dirt will do ye wheel balance no good at all. some of the pipes and tubes look vunarable and a plastic sump guard is as much use as well a plastic sump guard. just think by the time touratat has designed and made the parts and mr plumb gets off his arse and posts them out to you the thing will be 2 years old.
nope imho its not a bike to give the gs/gsa or ktm adventure a run its deffo more varadilldo/multistadle wanabee.:nenau

Nailed in one. :thumb

I was hoping for a twin cylinder version of the 660 on Steroids, instead we get this bloated imitation of what could have been a contender.

I'm sure it will make a great roadbike but too vulnerable to take offroad. Having some knowledge of the bike trade, I don;t the residual values will be that great in 12-18 months time, it's not as if the 660's hold their value & they're a better bike IMO.

Tenere

Iv owned a few Teneres,600 single and two super tenere 750s,the later bikes were great, half an exup engine,5 valve heads they were well built and quick, untill you see the new one in the flesh and it gets ridden its hard to know how it compares, but reading the posts about weight etc im abit mistified, most here tour on their GSs as i do on my 990,the weight as far as i see it is gonna make for a solid sure footed ride on the road, and lol GS and light are two words you'd not expect to hear in the same sentance, build quality, and reliability are certainly gonna be a +.Saying that not sure if id change my 990 for one but i think they'll sell a few.....:Motomartin

Not sure if I like it or not, could look a lot better with a beak like a GS.
