Yellow HIDs

Does anyone know if yellow light is better for visability than white light? I'm aware that it's better for rain etc because it doesn't reflect, and I've noticed that a stock 6000K HID can in some cases be worse than a stock filament bulb as the light is more "reflective". I'm interested in a 3000k HID which is yellow, and I figure the reason street lightning is yellow is for the same reason.

Ideas?

As the generations before us ( well most us... ) found out, "yellow" is better in fog/rain/snow as it is reduces glare/scatter.....:thumb2

Street lighting is yellow/orange because it uses sodium discharge lamps which give higher output but poor colour rendition - i.e everything appears yellow when viewed under this light. It's the cheapest way to give the required light levels for urban lighting. Metal Halide lamps (like the one in your HIDs) give slightly lower light output but better colour rendition - obviously better for driving as you can distinguish objects better. If you use the 3k HID lamps things may seem a little "warmer" but nowhere near the orange that you see on street lighting. Worth a try but the difference will acually be negligible.

Can't remember who, but there was a piccie recently posted from one of our Merkin cousins who had fitted (very) yellow HIDs to hi Micro DEs.

Combined with the blue light from the HID dipped beam I thought it looked really good in terms of standing out and being seen by other road users.

If ever I get round to HIDing my DEs that's defo what I will do :thumb2
