Ron of London, BMW's preferred insurer Allianz requires the insured machine to be safely locked up in a garage overnight (at least that's what they specified when I insured my XR a year or so ago). Presumably your insurance company does not have this proviso. Even if I switched to a less fussy insurer I would probably still garage the thing at night time. I am in Kingston, not a hotspot for motorcycle thefts (it's all burglaries around here), but I would not leave my bike out any more after the hours of darkness. Anyway, hope you are mobile and happy again soon.

Who is the underwriter you are dealing with?
As so far the cops have already given me the full crime number and the underwriters have been in touch and we have worked through the details of the claim. Aviva (my underwriters) and just waiting for confirmation of the bike being a TE spec, before being handed over to the engineer to value the claim/bike. Interestingly Aviva wanted to know how the bike was bought, IE dealer (BMW) or private (Autotrader) and their settlement figures are different for both.
But of course we are not at the crunch where we talk money yet
My insurance is with Just motorbike insurance - Someone was asking about it.
I have been parking bikes outside my house for 5 years. SV650s/GSXR600(k7)/GSXR1000(K9) and now the GS. never had issues before. But I guess it was only a matter of time before I joined the statistics.
