Yet another maps / unlock question

Hi, can someone offer some advice on this please

I've got a 2610, with v7 maps, but the screen is damaged.

If I buy another 2610 on ebay (or whatever) can I swap the CF card from my old unit to the new one, or are the maps on the card locked to that specific GPS unit? In other words will I need an unlock code to reprogram the card with the maps, with the card in the new GPS?

I don't care about map upgrades or the like, I was wondering if I can safely buy a 2nd hand GPS that may or may not come with unlock codes.

the maps are locked to one unit. there is a unique unlock code embedded in the files on the CF card.

maybe a call to garmin explaining the position, might get a new unlock code

Probably easier for you to just buy another 2610 with Version 8 maps (or later) already unlocked to it.
