I know I'm not a big poster on here but have been a lurker and contributer for a few years. I have bought a couple of GSs off the site and a few bits and bobs.
I have set myself a target to raise £7200 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The reason is I had an accident last year on the 3rd August. I was within minutes of dying on the road and without the efforts of my friends, an off duty policeman and the YAA I would not be here now.
Here is my story. This is also on http://www.justgiving.com/Andy-Broxham
Hi My name is Andy Broxham (Broko)
On the 3rd of August 2011, I went out for a bike ride on my BMW Dakar motorcycle with friends Ian and Charlie. Near Helmsley on the B1257 I was in collision with a lorry. I lost the front end on a slow corner (<30mph) probably due to having brand new tyres fitted..
In a freak accident, my face impacted on the rear stanchion of the lorry, (I think where containers are secured).
Charlie who was behind me, rolled me over into the recovery position and rang the emergency services. When he got through he tried to tell them of the seriousness of the situation but they told him would send out a paramedic. An off duty policeman took the phone from Charlie and insisted on the Air ambulance being sent out otherwise they would have a fatality.
The Helicopter arrived and the paramedics helped me survive. My breathing was very shallow, my lungs were filling with blood. I am told a tracheotomy was performed on the roadside and I was put into the helicopter and taken to York Hospital.
My lower jaw was broken in seven places, my upper jaw in five. The impact had ripped back my upper jaw through my nose. All my upper lip was missing and most of my nose.
The team at York managed to keep me alive for the next few days and numerous operations followed by the Maxillofacial team.
The police informed my wife (Angela) of the accident and took her to York. Angela asked for her sister (Jeanette) to go with her and the police picked her up. At this time the police informed Jeanette that they are looking at a fatality!
Over the next few months I have had several operations to try and rebuild my face. Mr Taylor the consultant at York and his team have done a great job. I have another 3 years of operations to go in Hull but am confident of making a decent recovery.
Without the help of Charlie, the off duty policeman and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance I would have died on the side of the road.
While I was in hospital Ray Armstron (a colleague at work) organised a golf day with Croda in Hull (where I work), and raised £215 on the day. Since then a further amount has been raised to get the total to were you see it above.
We are organising a Coast to Coast cycle ride in aid of the YAA at work. This will be from the 21st-24th May 2012. The route is the New Way of the Roses. Starting at Morecombe but branching off from Pocklington to Hull. We have obtained about £1000 in sponsorship up to now and the total is rising. This is just from the people of Croda.
My story will be featured on the new series of Helicopter heroes due to be screened in September. I will post details on my Facebook page. (if I can figure out how it works. I have a massive 5 friends)

I have got some leathers and a few bits and bobs to sell in aid of the YAA. I will put them up in the coming weeks.
