Your thoughts on extended warranties?

thanks for all of your input folks, I think as suggested I will put the money aside and take the gamble, I guess ill already be 350-400 pound towards a bill if one should present itself... just watch the whole thing go bang now!

That's what I would do :agree:agree

I don't think it does, but I believe genuine BMW parts must always be used.

That's not what I was told. It must be main dealer serviced to maintain the alleged warrenty. You can bring a new bike to a independent dealer but not in extended warrenty. That's why I threw in the EU bit. JJH

What you are taking about is £7 a week or the price of a couple of pints. As stated earlier,it's a business, they exist to make money. Save the money separate, and I bet you will come out on top.
Exactly. Insurance companies make a profit, therefore on average they pay out less than they get in premiums.
My view is that if you can afford to replace something, don't insure it. In the long run you will come out on top (bit like the house advantage in a casino).

BMW forums are the only ones where I've seen extended warranty discussed.
Don't even know if there is such a thing with Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc.

from the dark side this was sent

Harley have the same thing, I was offered one last month when my bike was 2 years old. Read the paperwork and the warranty is crap, all the stuff that goes wrong, such as chrome peeling off, isn't covered. So a waste of money for me.

Strange then. I had the same discussion with my dealer and was told by them I could use an independent as long as I used genuine parts. I thought about doing it but to be honest wouldn't have the nerve to take it back to the dealer for fixing should the worse happen, even though I know they would be OK about it. :nenau

All you need is this. What can possibly go wrong?
