My wife and I have the F800GS 2009.

We were early out getting the Zega Pro And S 31/38L pannier set and later on, when available, the Zega pro And S 38L top box/top case.

We have the BMW comfort seat if any influence on our issue here.

We travel around Europe two up each summer but since we got the top box, the ride have become rather unpleasant for both of us.
There's simply not enough space for riding two up (at least not our size) while the top box is mounted.
It's like I eather have to lean uncomfortably much forward and down towards the handlebar with my entire torso og my wife is pushing her back too much against the top box.

The Top box is sitting on top of the Touratech Standard Top Case Bracket which sits on top of the Stainless Steel Luggage rack.

My question is if anybody have had succes altering the positioning point of the top box backwards to make more space for the pillion rider or if anyone have any idea IF it in any way is possible?
Also if it will weaken the attachment in any hazard way if it was put further back by a blacksmith?

Thanks for reading.

It's quite a big topbox and heavy when it's loaded............I've just changed to a Zega Pro and Black with rapid trap on my 1200ADV and was a bit concerned initially about the mounting system compared the OEM alloy case which was very secure.

My topbox seems secure enough so far but I had thought of fitting an extra tie down loop underneath the box and fitting a wee safety strap to the rack especially if i'm riding on 'rough' roads.

Is yours rapid trap?

Have you thought of dumping the top box for the trip and using a rollbag ??

for a start you loose about 2 to 3 kg of the topbox

and an easily demountable rectangle of plywood will stop the bag drooping over the exhaust

and Be much softer for your beloved to rest against :thumb

Just be careful in letting her bring "extra" stuff

Weight should be carried as low as possible and as close to the bike centre mass

every time you put weight further back or further up You increase the moment of torque which it can exert I think thats why there are a lot less final drive failures on RT St and R models that the GS variants

I am aware of the weight distribution issues.
We used to ride with a set of roll bags in stead of the top box.

I do not find the top box in any way in dangering the ride.
I always have almost empty box og the lightest luggege there.

The drilled holes in the bottom of the box is for the furthest rear positioning of the box.
However, we need it to go further 7-9 cm to the rear to ensure comfy ride for both of us.
Alternatively the angling of the box should be leveled out but this would look ridiculous as the angle follows the angle of the panniers as it is now.

I was considering constructing a "buffer plate" but could this be done without pushing the weight to far to the rear and could it be done without compromising the theft security of the system?
