Hi, had a heart stopping moment in the o/s lane on the way up to scotland the other day, o/s lane of the motorway, all of a sudden one dead motor, dash display blank!
hand signals, and the fact it was mid morning on a week day, saw me safely into the hard shoulder, prop stand down, ignition off, back on, and the bike started again, and made it up to the lakes ok, couldn't find anything obvious, and the rest of the holiday, and 1300 miles went fine, took the seat off, nothing obvious, battery leads ok, all services fine, has anyone else had any similar experiences?
I would add that I have only just got the bike, new to me, 2006 R1200GS, 13500K the clock.
cheers

I think that if all the battery etc connections were sound, I would point the finger of suspicion at the ignition switch.

I had a similar thing happen but i was overtaking a coach, just got to the front of the bus when the lot died, luckily the bus driver could see i was fekked and he slowed enough for me to pull over, same thing, everything worked ok, i think it was the key fob blowing about switching off the ignition, i just had a key after that and all was fine for many thousands of miles:thumb

:D I was thinking that was all it could be, the damn thing still has the factory immobiliser on the fob, plus the dealers oversize key fob, like I say the bike was sound after that, but it was a moment an a half!!!!

Same happened to me - needed a new coil pack.

I hope that's not the case with this, I've just shed my Aprilia because of the numerous electrical issues, coils being just one of them!!!! what sort of cost was that? and was your bike ok after the lost of power? as I say, mine is running well now

Mine did the same, also a failed coil. I believe the electronics shut down the bike as the coil blew to protect the BMS-K module from damage. A scary moment. Luckily I was in remotest Scotlandshire so no traffic.
