Zumo 550 Directories ??

Just copied the below in reference to someone having problems 'importing' files into the zumo. You can get the jist of the problem from my experience.
Just want to see if there's any thoughts about this .....cheers

..just editing this note: So to follow on from this, I'd forgotten you can transfer a route to the SD Card, but what's interesting and very strange is that a file transferred to the SD Card or the memory on the Zumo is immediately over-written the next time you transfer a route to the SD or zumo memory and any previous routes transferred to the SD or Zumo, but not 'imported' will not appear in the 'Import Data' list. ((Confusing)) (the SD card route is not over-written if the route has been transferred to the Zumo memory and vice-versa). I'm writing this down if for nothing else so that I don't forget but comments would be useful.

chubs...did you manage to resolve this problem. I've just dropped my routes into my 550 and, like you, all seemed good.....with the message along the lines of 'Data successfully imported'. However, when looking in 'routes' I noted there were 3 routes missing !!!! That made me remember that when I was 'importing' routes I noticed 3 files import within seconds (they obviousley didn't make it)....where as all the others took several minutes. I tried importing those 3 routes seperatly and all now OK. The file structure of the zumo is confusing to say the least. I thought the files 'imported' to the zumo came from the SD card but they dont (I took the SD card out and imported a route....I think it went into the GARMIN Drive - GARMIN Directory - GPX Directory and appearded as the TEMP.gpx file, which appears to be over-written everytime you upload a route from the PC to the Zumo....very confusing)

May be worth everyone who's got a zumo to check that the routes they have in 'routes' is the same as what was transferred from the PC to the Zumo.

I think you have almost confused me too

When I make a route on mapsource I save it as a GPX file in a folder named GPX which is inside another folder Named GARMIN and these are on my SD Card.
Not to be confused with files and folders on the Zumo itself.
The only other folder I have on the SD Card is one named MP3 which is where I store my tunes.
I can save as many routes as I want in the GPX folder and they are always there to import if I want to use one of them.
Zumo does not overwrite or delete any of them.

Seems to work for me

I also save .gpx files to my SD card in the GPX folder.
If I was to then save another .gpx route to the SD card using the 'send to' facility in Mapsource, the original file I sent is immediately overwritten. So in effect, I seem to be only able to save one file (which may contain a dozen routes) and then must 'import' them before i can save more .gpx files to the SD card.

The above also applies if I save to the zumo memory.

I do not use the 'send to' when I am making more than one route.

I make up my routes as normal and save them as GPX files in a folder on my computer.

I then either put the card into a card reader and copy and paste the routes into the Garmin/GPX folder.

Or just leave the card in the Zumo and navigate to the same same folder and paste the routes in.

If you use Mapsource to transfer the route data, then I think it creates the file temp.gpx (or something similar - one that is overwritten each time you transfer via Mapsource). If you do as Kenney suggests and write the .gpx files direct to the Zumo SD card (into Garmin\GPX) they will not be overwritten by the Zumo or by Mapsource, and you can import the routes at any time. BTW, go to Mapsource File, Save as, to save routes in .gpx format. By default Mapsource uses the .gdb format (my version does anyway)

PS: you can save multiple routes in a single file - each route can be imported individually from a single file
