Just returned from a 12 day trip around Europe. Used a 550 bought from thus site recently.
I had the following issues

1. Crashed twice - MUST remember the Allen key to remove battery next time!!
2. My main concern - The unit is hard wired va the cradle and convenient canbus plug to the bike. If the unit is placed in he cradle, it comes on with the ignition with a nice bright screen. However, it seems to then revert to its wn battery when the engine is started as it then runs its own battery down a few hours later. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I have a fault of some kind? A colleague at work suggests a wiring problem.

Any guidance appreciated!

Bob,

You can restart the 550 by turning it on while pressing the [ + ] button (top left hard button), saves taking out the battery.

On the subject of not charging you might find that the cradle is knackered if it is found to be wired up properly- it can happen after water ingress over time. Happened to me.

Hi Roberto, thanks for the reply. The power lead was fitted to a can us plug by my local BM dealer, Balderstons, so I am assuming all is well there. Will check the cradle for water ingress. Thanks again.

Hi Keith, If I am honest, not sure. First time I had used it so will need to get my head around exactly what is happening (or not!). Just checked the inside of the mount and no signs of water ingress. And have also fitted a new lead acne Canbus plug bought from this site. Fixed unit to cradle and it came on with ignition but screen was dim suggesting it was on battery power only. Started engine and no change BUT when I switched the unit off and then on again with engine running it was nice and bright. Need to find out if there is some way of the unit showing it is being charged but not sure if this is an available function. Just going to trawl through this site and the posts to see what I can find out.

Bob

I had a similar problem on my 2005 1200GS.

The unit was powered via the CabBus lead in the loom at the headstock.

What was happening was the mount was powering up when the ignition was turned on but then the CanBus was failing to recognise the Satnav and then
cutting the power to it so it was running on internal power only.

The simple way to check this is that you lose the audio directions when the mount loses power (Zumo 550).

I got round the problem by wiring the unit direct to the battery. However, I was told that the dealer can do some kind of software update to solve this problem.

Works perfectly on my 2010 model so maybe the problem has been solved.

Hope this helps.

ATB.

Pete
