Hi All

I'm trying to copy a load of MP3's on to my Zumo 550 with an 8Gb SDHC card, but some reason, the GPS won't recognise the MP3 files when I try to play them. The device has the latest firmware as I know that SDHC cards weren't supported until version 3 of the firmware.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Cheers

nope mine works perfectly and has about 500 tracks on a SD card.

Hmm... I've just tried removing all the files and copied just 3 MPS's on to it to make sure that the card is being recognised and the device can see them and plays them OK.

I had less than 500 tracks on there previously, but it still wouldn't see them.

This is weird

Do you have all of the files in one folder?

There is a limit on the number of files in a single folder that the 550 can see (can't recall the number). I keep around 20 to a folder and have no problems.

Hiya

I had about 300 tunes when it wouldn't recognise them, but I think I might have found the issue.... I have a feeling I'm being too impatient after loading the songs on to the SDHC card and not giving the device time to read the whole card, just a hunch. I'm copying all my tunes back on to the card now, and after I've left it about 5 minutes, I'll see if the device reads the files.

I'll post back when I have a answer :)

What a plonker I am... Worked with computers for 18years and I never thought of the obvious. I copied over 500 tunes on to the 8Gb SHDC card and left it alone for a few minutes... Guess what... It worked! :mmmm

I realised after watching how slowly my PC was copying the data down to the SD card, then thought, Hang on, if it takes that long to copy the data to the card in the first place, then surely it'll take a while for the device to read the whole card before allowing the tunes to be played.

I hope this helps someone else...

Quick update:

It's taking my 550 about 3minutes after initial power on before it sees any of the tunes on the SDHC card.

trying a quicker card..

I'm about to do this so can you explain what a quicker card would be? I'm going to be buyind an sd card soon so a link to a "fast" card would be greatly appreciated! :thumb2 Ta.

Hi Udders

There are several different speed classes for SD card, the link below shows the different ones.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating

The card I've got is a SanDisk 8GB SDHC Secure Digital Card which is rated at class 2 (2MB/sec)

These are some of the fastes cards at the moment (Class 10)

Just realised that my Zumo 660 uses the micro sd card. :blast
I'd better do another search.:augie
