Hi Guys
Recently upgraded my very old SP3 to a Zumo 550, all is great apart from th evolume output, using the plug in helmet speaker I used very successfully on the SP3 I can hardly hear the directions on the Zumo. Found the master volume contol and set this to max, bu tstill to quiet. The ols SP3 was ace in terms of output, coudl hear it clear as clear even with earplugs in and no where near full volume setting, on the Zumo no chance with earplugs and a real strain above 50 mph without plugs. Anyone suggest any solutions, or will I have to go the Autocom route to get some amplification?

Thanks Guys

seen an amplifier on ebay, around £50. not cheap, but cheaper than an autocom. If interested i will try and get you more details. nick

Thanks for that Nick, and yes Sleepy both on Max volume, maybe my speaker is giving up the Ghost?

Can't help on the Zumo front, but if you do go the amplifier route, check out Boosteroo. Had one for a few years, batteries last for ages, and a quick search shows you should be able to get one for aroudn the £20 mark. If it meets you needs (connection wise) I'd recommend it.

I have a Boosteroo linked to a Zumo 550 using a Starcom lead /speakers into a BMW System5 helmet. With the Zumo & Boosteroo I can comfortably hear voice navigation commands at 100mph+, and listen to music up to the mid 80mph. I wear fitted earplugs as well. Before fitting the Boosteroo the sound from the Zumo on its own became inaudible above 50mph.

Boosteroo was about £17 from Amazon.com. No fancy wiring, simply plug & play jackpins all round. Boosteroo still on the original battery after 5,000 miles+ of use. It also fits reasonbly well behind the Zumo with some velcro sticker fixers.

Another thing to remember is that the volumes controlled using the "settings" part of the menu (the spanner) are a percentage of that set by the black button on the lefthand side of the unit. First make sure that that the volume set by that button is set to the max and then check the settings.

The Boosteroo looks good but does anyone know if it will work between a Zumo and autocom:nenau It says you plug the one lead into the Zumo but there are 2 leads going to the autocom. Don't want to buy one if it wont work!

I haven't got a Zumo but as long as all the audio output comes via one lead you'll be fine.

I'm over in Fleet so if you want to try it out pop over. I'm off to the Alps on the Pompey -> Caen Ferry tonight so it'll have to wait a week though (unless you can make it today).

mail me on markie underscore wales at hotmail dot com if you want to test.
