Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice on the garmin zumo 660. I've read some informative posts on here by wiz and others but unsure what I'd need to make the following work, if possible:

I've got an autocom super pro auto on my 09 gs adventure. Ideally I want to link this to the zumo as well as my iPhone. Bluetooth seems the ideal way but the post from wiz talks about splitting cables and using different Bluetooth dongles otherwise the volume will be affected. Would this be in place of the autocom Bluetooth adaptor?

Also, how does the zumo wire into the bike? My gs has a plug near the headstock under the clocks is that what this is for?

Excuse my ignorance I just want to do a neat job on the bike, due to ride round holland and Germany next month and would like a decent set up for the trip.

Thanks folks

Hi there and welcome to the forum....:thumb2. A quick search raises a shedload of threads about connecting the Zumo660 - here is one for example posted bu Yonkyo a while back: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthr...highlight=zumo.

But to answer briefly, you are right that you can connect the Zumo to the CANBUS port under the headstock. To do this, you will need to buy a power cable which you then connect to the Zumo's power lead by soldering and shrink covering the join. Again, this is from the above post:

Then your device will power-up and switch off automatically on the ignition key. Cable-tie the spare cable neatly and it looks the biz.

Cheers as in my first post ive read that already but although informative it does sound quite complicated. I was thinking is it not as simple as bluetoothing them all together?

Do I really have to change wires around etc? I've also been curious what the socket / connector is for under the clocks area.

Sorry to ask as I know this topic is covered a lot but I can't find the answers I need anywhere.

The Zumo660 is delivered new with two bare power wires (plus a shedload of audio and connectivity cabling) so, whatever you decide to do requires some form of connecting/soldering/taping. But it really is simplicity itself and takes no more than 5 minutes (OK, maybe 10 minutes for the first time) to connect the two Zumo power wires to the two numbered CANBUS cable wires and then plug the result into the plug under the headstock. The alternative is to run the power leads directly to the battery but why bother?

As to bluetooth, I suspect you are talking about audio connection once the device is powered up as (to the best of my knowledge) bluetooth can't be used as a main power source. Finally, I am not sure what 'socket/connector' you are referring to as the CANBUS socket is directly under the instruments as well. The only other power plug that I know of on the GS is the BMW plug under the seat on the nearside.
