hi folks, mite be a saft question?, im looking at buying a zumo, i wondering does it have to be used along with an autocom to recieve the speech directions?, or is it personal choice and the zumo is easy enough to keep an eye on as your going along, without the autocom????

Apparently the bluetooth dongle is the job. Costs about £70 tho :augie

If you want to use the phone and get directions then it's fine, if you want to use the music function it's abysmal as its not designed for music despite what suppliers will tell you.

I tried it and believe me you don't want to go down that route.

The zumo music is fine with a lead - but crap via bluetooth.

I only use my autocom when I have a pillion as well, otherwise in-ear speakers direct to the Zumo.

It is possible to live with a GPS and do without audio but it is much easier with.

I ran a bit with a quest without audio and it wasn't a problem until things got busy, either heavier traffic or lots of turns, when I would have loved to have a voice in my ear telling me where to go. I've just bought a zumo (400, didn't want bluetooth) and it will be getting fed through the autocom to a headset.

Next time the traffic is heavy, try reading off your mileage as you travel along. That's what it's like when life is interesting and you have to look at the GPS to see where you are turning off. Note - this could do you some damage and I take no responsibility if you are daft enough to try it :D

I have my Zumo 550 set up via Autocom with the 'in the ear plug speakers' option (£150 extra from any ear plug supplier) and have no problems with voice commands, the music or the phone (However don't use the phone on the bike now), also chatting to SWMBO on the back.

With the right set up it works and mine is the old autocom 7...

Is starcom not an option as well ? I've heard a fair amount of issues with the zumo not being loud enough and they all seem to use autocoms but have never heard starcom people complain ? I could be wrong though ?:mmmm
