zumo std mounting

hi just fitted a 660 on the cross bar on my adventure not sure how secure the std mounting is. might just be me but it looks like it could vibrate out anyone using the std mount.

i am trying to avoid paying for the touratech locking version but will if i need to

Got to agree and say it never looks like it will survive but I've had my 660 for 3 or 4 years and done probably 5 - 7000 miles off road (15000 on road?) with the std mount and it's never come out or got loose.

Would still like it to have a little locking screw like my old 2610 had for coffee stops / big bust petrol stations, but other than that it's been perfect.

Its all you need, mine is attatched to the lower bars, much more solid IMO, heres some pics, added a lock for the mount (about £12 if I remember)

correct me if I am wrong but that lock replaces the thumb "butterfly bolt" rather than locking the 660 to the cradle, right? If so, nice, but I'd rather have a lock so someone can't whip it off walking past.

Mine stayed in the mount after I lobbed the bike down the road at approx 30-40mph. The bike went down onto one side, then flipped upside-down, then slid down the road on the other side.

After everything came to a stop, the unit was still in the mount. You can see it still attached if you look through the screen

Once I'd wiped the brake fluid off the screen, it was fine. It still is fine.

Thanks - I take mine, but if I had something lockable like my 2610 I'd my OK to leave it for the odd dash for coffee etc. for me the TT lockable is just too much for the benefit.

take on stick cable tie sticky base (maplins), see picture
on back of 660
one cable tie,
and one lanyard (something like this for example)

use the cable tie thru the stick on base to provide a loop for the lanyard, thread the lanyard thru somehwere adjacent to the zumo mount.
the lanyard release means you can still easily remove the unit, but
prevents premature ejection of the unit if someones fingers have been busy with the mount release when your attention was elsewhere, and also
acts as a sort of final line of defense if someone tries to grab it, (best is to put it in your pocket if leaving the bike tho')

Don't waste your money, my Zumo has done around 140K road miles in the same mount. No problems.

I made my own mount. Well, I copied someone elses idea on here. I have added a little hole in the mount so that I could put a padlock through it, and therefore lock the "release" button so it CANNOT be operated.

But I just pop the unit off and stick it in my pocket or topbox (making sure there's no pointy bolt to damage it of course)....
