Hi all,

Can anyone recommend what current / latest mobiles available in the UK are compatible with the Zumo 550 for handsfree + accessing both your contacts AND sms / text messages?

I'm currently using a Nokia N95 which does transfer contacts info, well when it wants to lol, but would also like to see my texts come up on the Zumo.

The Garmin site does list some that are compatible but their database seems very outdated. I have emailed Garmin pointing this out and that even my 18 month old Nokia N95 wasn't listed but was very disappointed at their cop-out of a reply!:

"The compatable phones get tested by Garmin America and those that pair
are put onto Garmin.com, This is done normally once every few months.

Thank you for contacting Garmin(Europe)Ltd."

I would like to stay with a Nokia, or possibly a Sony Ericson, as I send and receive contact info as 'Business Cards' and I know this feature doesn't work with motorolas (or rather didn't with my previous Motorola V3)

I'd like to get away from a slide type phone as I'm forever opening the N95 by accident and also need something with a decent battery life. I don't need email or music as I also have a iPhone 3G.

I like the look of the Nokia E51 which a colleague has and rates highly: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=160221

Any advice welcome :)

Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem with my n95 with the tom tom rider. Got it working well *with the latest updates and some patches of t'interweb* but never managed to get the sms thing working. Also the same thing with all old phones and the n95 being missed off. I got a very similar response from tomtom also. I was under the impression that the 550 worked with the n95 and had been contemplating buying one! but now i think i wont bother.

I ditched my tomtom and cracked the n95 gps software so it doesnt need an additional bluetooth gps reciever, it uses the inbuilt one with tomtom mobile. Works a treat in the tankbag, espically coupled with the scala rider headset. And the bonus is that its one less expensive gizmo to get nicked.

All my Sony Ericcsons work fine (K800, K850, C902) and update contacts fine.

You're wish for reading & writing your text messages are a no-go. Garmin don't seem too eager to allow this feature on the Zumo, yet they do on some of their car only units.

It's one feature I wish it had (if only just to annoy the safety nazis and doom mongering gobsh1tes on this site)

Like the attitude!

How reliable was your K800? Mine works maybe half the time; the phone will will disconnect from the Zumo and need to be rebooted. I've got a Nokia E51 which I may try for a while. Trouble is, they always work fine in the garage when I test it, but then go tits up when out riding.

The Bluetooth connection between the Autocom and Zumo seems to be pretty stable (most of the time), so I'm pretty sure its the phone...

Hi again

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

Padge, do you know if the text feature works with the phones that Garmin list as it working with? I have an old Motorola V3, might stick a sim card in it just to try it, as that's one they show as compatible for texts.

SilverFish, would you report back on how your E51 performs, if you get chance to try it out?

As I said before, I would prefer to stay with a Nokia to save added hassle when updating the contacts to a new handset and also for the Business Card feature but my girlfriend's Sony Ericson does seem to have a much better battery life than my N95.

Thanks again,
Terry
