.....

Cheers for the kick up the arse, Richsrd. I'll get it done, mate. I owe you one :beerjug:

;)

All this planning with maps is great, they dont tell the full story though. Might look great and be rubbish or vice versa. Great thing with a good forum is the well traveled people who have actually been on the roads. They can give you a heads up for little known passes or great places to stop. Use these WITH the maps and sat nav. BTW sat nav has caused more angst and fall out among the groups I have been away with than anything else. Some folks cant follow sat navs let alone navigate with a map! Some people want turn by turn directions, others just way points. To each their own.
The maps and sat nav dont tell you that Stelvio will be log jammed with cyclists, but Timmelsjoch nearly empty (maybe because its a toll road?)
Good luck with getting the right route. We typically manage around 200 to 280 miles per day of mixed mountain passes, but we make progress... ;)

Which, whilst it's great to get it off your chest, does the square root of feck all to answer El Capitain's question.

So, what's the best scenic route from Zurich to Innsbruck? The OP's shown you the broad direction. Fill in all the 'Great little undiscovered cols and cafes'. It's 170 miles as the crow flies and he's got all day and a bit, so he'll need a great hotel, too. Don't for feck's sake suggest an Ibis, or he'll think you a pikey cnut with no more taste than a Happy Meal in a Harvester in Droitwich.

You are a hooner in the hairpins; he's a hooner, too..... And he's bought sticky tyres.

Problem with planning for Swiss/Germany/Austria is that they don't do Google streetview which is an absolute boon when planning UK/France/Spain.

I am planning a trip to and from Zell am See for this year. In all honesty I'm not much inclined to ask for suggestions here as I'd rather not have to plough through acres of sarcasm to glean the nuggets of shared info.
A shame, that.

Oh, don't over exaggerate. This thread (and several others) saw you right and more besides:

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/400085-French-Pyrenees?p=4107374#post4107374

As it shows, it takes time on someone's part to answer route questions properly. Lots can't be bothered to try either planning or answering. Others can and do.

Now put a smile on your face and cheer-up, it will soon be summer.
