Greetings.:thumb2

I’m, in detail, plotting my route to Monte Casino. I’ve got to Mulhouse just north of the Swiss border. (I got my vignette:D ) I would like someone with experience of this area, to suggest the best route through Switzerland. I’m not concerned with it being the fastest, but rather the most memorable :eek
So a route from Mulhouse, through to Milan.
Cheers in advance guys and girls:beerjug:

PS. I’m plotting it on my Mapsource for uploading to my 2720. Shenzi a copy will be posted to you for Marking:thumb

You can skip the vignette if you enter CH not on a motorway and then stick to A roads.

Beware Swiss drivers, they are a bit erratic

Cheers Putney, we did decide, that although it is not absolutely necessary to have a vignette displayed, we chose to have them, just in case. (it's only £21.00)

I quite often do Calais to Evian ( Lake Geneva ).

Its boring roads til you get to Reims - then it gets a whole load better.

I wouldnt go via Mulhouse (Basle) - I would turn off south earlier & go thru Vesoul, Besancon , over the mountains to Lausanne - round the eastern bit of Lake Geneva & then thru the French Alps to Chamonix.

Theres lots of "side roads" between any of these places that are brilliant biking roads & very picturesque.

That way you wont need a vignette either. :thumb2

Cheers Dry:thumb This is what im looking for. :clap
Im coming down from Bastogne, so ill be more east entering Switzerland.

Try this

This is a route to and from Italy that we used on the one and only World of BMW trip we took. Nothing wrong with the tour, it's just that after that we went off by ourselves. It's quite a large file, so I've Zipped it as two files. Unzip and open them in Mapsource. Then, using the panel on the left, just follow the route down to Alsace, through the Black Forest, down through Switzerland to Milan. On the way back, try and pick up a route through the Dolomites and then back across Switzerland.

Here's hoping it uploads OK. If not, send me a message and I'll e-mail it to you. Have fun!

Cheers Banjaxed:thumb
It is similar to my route. Some of the return route hasnt come opened , as i need V5. I'll use it to fine tune my route.

Cookie. Did you read ALL of my opening thread, or just some of it:rolleyes: And i bet mine is better than yours:D

must have missed the ps

yours is certainly better than mine.

in some ways.

I'd go over Besançon as wel, and than head for Lausanne and down the "Vallee du Rhone" to Martigny, from there you can take the "Grand" St. Bernardpass, and you're into the Aosta valley.

Or, you can follow the Rhone valley and in Brig take the Simplonpass into Italy, follow alongside Lago Magiorre towards Milan.

Or, follow the Rhone even further, towards it's well, the Rhone Glacier, over the Furkapass, and than head right over the old St. Gotthardpass into Bellinzona, over Lugano towards Milan.

Or, try to combine al the above and even more, and enjoy:D

Grtz, Philip!

Whenever going to Austria or the Dolomites we make for Colmar & have a night in the Campanile there. Then we head through into the Black Forest just missing Frieburg & onto Chur Switzerland for another night in the Ibis.
From there it's the route to Davos where the roads really start to get interesting Fluella Pass etc and take in the Stelvio & onto Bolzano & the Dolomites or carry on for Innsbruck & Austria

Hmmm...

With the file size limit on the site, I chopped up the original route into sections. Each will however have all the waypoints for the entire trip, so you should be able to piece it together.

You'll see that part of the route down is the same as Red Rocket's, going through the Vosges mountains (aim for the Col de la Schlucht, or the Col du Bonhomme), then across into Germany for a run down the B500 through the Black Forest. After that, you have lots of choice (Furka, Grimsel, etc.). Do have a look at the Alpine Roads website for more info. Agree with Red Rocket - do NOT miss the Eastern part of Switzerland and (particularly) the Dolomites.

My recommendation would be to take a westerly route going down to Italy (past the Italian lakes and Milan), then come back via the eastern route through the Dolomites, Stelvio and Davos. Stelvio look better (scarier) coming from the south...

Yippee!!
