I was using Lonley Planet Baltic Region tourist guide to plan my trip. After pasing Poland very fast, ( 140-160km/h on main roads there is no police ) I was afraid of speeding in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. I had no problem. In Estonia there are oni couple of police motor bikes and dozen of cars.
I wonted to sleep in low budged hotel or camping sites but I did not found any of this sites. Every day, like there where connected they charge my 30€ per night sometimes with out breakfast. Camping sites ale like military camps, no toilet or running weather and absolutely no security. At the moment I don’t remember how much is the petrol but its much cheaper then in reset of EU, below 1€. Malboro is 1.3€, cafe and coke around 1.5-2€.
Main road are in good condisen, you can travel fast and safe, all cars are moving out your way but many of secondary road are dirt one.
I strongly recommend to stay in Palanga day or two if you like touristy places. You can ride to Lithuania “stone hedge”. On half way to capital Vilnius is Hill of Crosses in Siaolin. In Vilnius I slept in the safest house in Lithuania, at Georgian „boss“ 30€ with breakfast. 150km before Vilnius is Trakai castle. Lake surround it and you can swim in it.
In Latvi I wonted to see some national rezerve where Liv people live ( marker 12 on my map ). Big mistake. Almost 80km of dirt road and nothing of famous Liv people or rezerve.
Jurmala is also tourist resort in nothing compeer to Palanga.
Esti is also nice but windy. Not strong wind but cold one Im not use to it. Day lite is until 3AM and at 4AM its coming up again. Tartu city near Piepsy lake was very nice for my. Not to small and not to big. Just right size for biker. You cant not be lost in it old town is lovely and there in no crime. Lover crime rate in EU. Piepsy lake is 70km long and divides Russia and Esti.
Saaremma island in also nice. There I found traditional houses turn into hotel with good food, quite cheep and beautiful waitress. From mail land you go to Muhu island and then to Saaremma. Some where in between Kurasara city and Muhu island there are meteor craters. Now I cant remember with island is connected with bank. In Kurasare is meadeval castle with spectacular view.
In all the country’s people are nice but not to friendly. There are afraid of stranger that is soviet inheritance. KGB “loved” them. They started to drive bikes few years ago so they don’t have bikers friendly spirit not even between themselves or my ( I was traveling alone ).Everybody speaks English or Russian.
