I'm trying to determine the engine speed of my 2smoke enduro using a snapon digital timing light. I've connected the HT lead grip onto said lead fired it up and get a reading however....... it's a bit higher than i was expecting:confused:
Then it dawned on me I might have to halve the displayed value to give the true RPM:confused:
Would this be so or will my EXC actually be ticking over at 3 grand  (I'm pretty damm sure it's not:rolleyes: )

I guess that your Snap-On tool would be expecting an HT pulse every two engine revs (ie 4-cycle) whereas a paraffin-pisser fires every engine cycle.

Halve the reading you've got.

Verify by hooking it up to a 4-stroke engine (your GS or your car) and see what the tacho reads.

Yeah thats what i figured. I know the instrument is accurate on a 4st as I've had it for years, just never used it on a 2st before.
