i use to live in the north east for 20 odd years now moved to scotland on a recent visit to see family was sitting outside with me daughter, along comes two little kids no older than ten started the questions how fast does it go will it wheely at 300mph and then they said do you know what bmw stands for and before i could answer he says black mans willy and backwards it reads white mans balls well what could i say i was speechless,hence the quick departure oh the joys of being back down the north east :p

Yes, it means Bayerische Motoren Werke.

BMW started to build engines for aeroplanes and that's why the badge is a white propeler rotating in the blue sky.

BMW started to build motorbikes only because that they couldn't continue to build big aero engines after WW I.
