As a carb cleaning agent...

Hi All.

Has anyone ever heard of using hydraulic break fluid as a replacement for a carb cleaner...?

I think it was my brother, alias "Mr. Know-It-All", that had mentionned this to me a number of years ago, when I had no carbs to clean.
It seems as though it was a much better, and cheaper (!) option.

Over to yous, Lads.

Never heard of that. It would be interesting to know how if it works ok..let us know once you have tried it :)

I use white spirits when I strip mine down. It allways works well.

Several types ( DOTs) of brake fluid, none will do stalwart duty as a carb cleaner. However, several are hygroscopic which may help remove entrapped water.....

Whem I was an appretice many years ago, the accepted means of cleaning a SU carb bell and piston was a cloth dipped in old brake fluid and a good rubbing:)
I still use same method today:thumb2

BUT I never do it near any paintwork
