View Full Version : The final farewell to John.

Beginning of June.

John and I spent a few days dividing up the spares and tools between us which left me with an additional 20kg’s to carry and about 30l of precious volume gone, and John with a smile on his face and space for some more souvenirs !!

It was a bit bizarre as we’d spent most of the last 2 years 24/7 together and somehow we had both already accepted the end of our adventure as we’d known it without much ado. Well that was at least what I thought at the time, and something I’ll come back to a little later.

John and I decided that as we’d started the trip together we needed to have one last night out together and so Sylvia graciously agreed to have a night in. We spent the first part of the evening listing the best and worst of everything on the trip, that is equipment, places, adventures and circumstances etc.(Which we will publish here soon as a separate entry). The later part of the evening we ended up in a night club with an excellent live band who knew how to enjoy themselves, and subsequently gave us a good night out. It wasn’t an excessive night but a good night out to commemorate the end of our adventures.

The following night was to be John’s last and so the three of us went out for the evening to our favourite Pizza restaurant in Thamel, Kathmandu, The Road House Café(best Pizzas and salad any of us have ever enjoyed anywhere….including Italy !!!!). John wanted to leave early in the morning and so it was an early night. :nod

The following morning Sylvia and I got up early with John for breakfast and to see him off. As he kitted up and manoeuvred his bike around to leave our Hotel car park, it more clearly struck me for the first time that our whole lives as they’d been for 2 years were about to change.

John leaving the 'saftey' of our Hotel car park.

We waved him off and took some photos to capture him bouncing along the puddle-filled pot-holed alleyway that did for a road, as he made his way back to the main highway out of Kathmandu.
