In which case don't even think about it - unless you only want a GPS to use in north America.

In reality, it can be done, but it's not easy and doesn't really save you any money.

The GPS’s are the same except but the base map of a Garmin GPS will be America’s version and ideally you want the Atlantic (European) base map.

Reason being, when you zoom out to say the 8 mile scale (a rough guess) the GPS stops showing the detailed mapping and reverts to the base map, leaving you with basically a blank screen. This can be fixed by uploading Garmin World Map along with the detailed mapping, and the GPS will show World Map when you zoom out.

The other problem with buying an America’s GPS is you will have to buy detailed European mapping (City Navigator 2008) and that will sink any money you thought you were going to save…

Of course you could put Metroguide mapping on your GSP with the aid of Metro Wizz, that way you get routing… but its not as good as City Navigator mapping.

So… unless you really know what your doing, its not worth the effort :(
