I just wanted to take a moment and put together a coordinated announcement for the Forum members who are interested about the new version of the xma3 and the Trade-In Program that we have in place for the owners of the xma3 V.1 units...Plus, it's a great time to pick one up with the exchange rates the way they are...

The NEW xma3 V.2 replaces our current xma3 V.1 Bike Powered model - we are discontinuing this model and have only a small number of these units left in stock; please contact us if you wish to purchase one of these units...they won't last long!

The xma3 V.2's MSRP is $187.00 USD - Yes, there is still a Group Discount Program in place and the discount for Forum members will still be applied to the above MSRP as before...

We are also offering a Trade-In Program for the owners of the current xma3 V.1 units...The program allows current owners to trade in their current bike or battery powered unit for a $110 USD credit towards the purchase of a new unit...The Group Discount Program pricing is still applicable so we feel it is quite a nice way to say, 'Thank you for your support!' to our early adopters. Full details are available on our Group Discount Program page...

The new xma3 V.2 incorporates all the same features (NOTE: We have removed the Crossfeed Defeat from the design - the unit still features Crossfeed just not the defeat button and the V.2 unit no longer features a Class 'A' Bias) as the xma3 V.1 PLUS the following features or feature extensions:

-> Dual-Powered - The xma3 V.2 comes standard with dual-power capability – the unit can be powered by either a 9v battery or the motorcycle's 12v electrical system.

-> DC Blocking - The DC blocking capability built into mono input 2 to assist with the troubleshooting of any input devices that are potentially introducing DC current into your xma3 V.1 has been extended to both mono inputs in the xma3 V.2.

-> Auto-Muting/Input Prioritization - The xma3 V.2 features an auto-muting function that lowers the volume of the stereo input when an audio signal appears on the "auto-muting mono input". This functionality makes it much easier to monitor voice communications (from an FRS radio, GPS, etc.).

-> Noise-Gate Technology - The xma3 V.2 features a noise-gate that completely mutes the second mono input until a valid signal is present. This feature is extremely useful when dealing with radar detectors, like the Escort Passport 8500 and Solo 2, and the less than optimal audio output circuitry which they feature.

-> Optimized Gain by Input - Given that certain inputs, such as radar detectors, are louder than others we have optimized the output gain of the auxiliary mono inputs based on the sources that are normally utilized with the xma3’s auxiliary inputs. This means that the gain for the Stereo source remains the same at 6.5x, while the auxiliary inputs have been tuned down slightly with radar detectors and GPS’s in mind

-> FRS Radio Integration - The audio-muting functionality implemented in the xma3 V.2 now facilitates the use of an FRS radio for bike-to-bike communication; The xma3 V.2 allows the FRS radio’s output to be amplified and mixed as is the case with any other input. The voice path remains separate and is not passed through the xma3. As such, a separate microphone must be used in conjunction with your normal earphones in order to utilize your FRS radio for bike-to-bike communication.

NOTE: The xma3 V.2 is not an intercom, it only supports rider-to-pillion via FRS radio and the passenger cannot, at this time, hear music or any other input as they are independant of the xma3 and are solely using the FRS radio.

We are still offering the Battery Powered xma3 V.1 for the near term as it is still a quality piece of electronics that fit a good portion of our customers needs...

Appears that I forgot a bit eh?! This should help...

So what is the xma3?

The xma3 is an audiophile quality, multi-input Headphone Amplifier Mixer with crossfeed engineered specifically for the motorcycle environment.

What does it do and why do I need one?

The xma3 multi-input Headphone Amplifier Mixer allows you to mix the audio inputs from one Stereo source (Satellite Radio, MP3 player, CD player, Cassette Player, Mini Disc player, etc.) and two Mono sources (Radar Detector, GPS, Cellular Phone (Monitor Only), Scanner, FRS Radio, etc.) into one Stereo output (Earphones, Helmet Speakers, etc.). This functionality allows you to not only enjoy your music source but, also to be able to monitor your radar detector and other audio inputs simultaneously while riding.

No it ain't an Autocom, the Autocom does not amplify and it's only noise cancelling on the mic not the other inputs, this device is an autonomous amplifier that will mute a music source when the satnav or phone or radar detaector chirps in and is very high quality sound.

This is a very different animal to an Autocom.

Exactly right...Plus we're offering a true plug-and-play solution that doesn't require any proprietary connectors or the like...Also, it's natively dual-powered without the need for any special leads...Loads of differences...

That's not to say that the Autocom is not a good product - some folks love their Autocoms - but, we are definitely not an Autocom we're an alternative that offers several things that the Autocom doesn't...

That's basically right - it was designed so that if you used a cell as an input you'd know that you missed a call; Personally I wouldn't waste the input but, the unit can do it and some users have used it for this function...

As far as why we didn't make it so you could use a cell in this way is actually pretty simple...1.) It was designed as such for liability reasons - don't want to get sued when a rider ends up smashing themselves into the back of a truck because they were in a heat cell phone call...2.) We're not primarily an intercom or bike-to-bike solution, the unit can provide bike-to-bike with an FRS radio and a mic but we are mainly an audio solution and to facilitate the voice path through the unit would have caused the price to rise further and wouldn't provide functionality that most people use in our experience...
