I'm starting to put some thoughts around a trip for 2009 and would appreciate some advice if it's out there.....

Intention is to cross the Russian border at Kirkenes, stopping in Murmansk for the night. After that ride South to St Petersburg. My questions are....

1. What kind of roads can I expect to find on this route

2. What sort of area will I be travelling through? Should I be expecting trouble.....

3. I think a realistic expectation of time to do this journey will be a couple of days, unless I really push it in a day.....

4. If I need to stop on the route South, what's the potential for camping (finding a quiet spot well off the road)....

5. any other tips.....

thanks.....:eek:onyack

Petcul did a nice write up which might be good for info.

learn some russian that's my advice won't help but better to have a few words than none at all.
