Ok, I know that this is a UK forum BUT there is none like it in OZ. So please, Australians post your thourghts of anticipation here.

My thoughts:
BWM as so lacking in info. I found out the the 650s was to be replaced in late 2007. Internet watching revieled the new 800gs. I visited my local dealer in Vic fom early June (perhaps before), I TOLD THEM STUFF. The southbank dealer would not assure me delivery in the first batch at the end of july. They had 15 orders they said. I ordered through oakliegh. They would not assure that i was in the first batch. But they stated that i ordered the 5th of 6 they were expecting (end of july).

They are expecting a demo 800gs in August. I have made it quiet clear that i want to ride it ASAP. But now it is the 11th of Aug and there is no word.

Too add, the original release date was September, but when I ordered it was October. They wont even give us an end, mid or start of month.

I really do think that BMW think that their shit does not stink. I so wish that the Japs brought a very similar bike (the closest i can see is the suzuki V-storm)

Well good luck to all us here in the southern hemisphere.

+3 here, got latest update, bike being made in September and delivered late October (read November)

Dude, trust me, most of the time we're doing you a big favor. :cool:

As indeed are we. You get the bikes after the last stage of design engineering them (ie the faultfinding) has been done by the European customers. :eek:

No better in Sydney!

Snowlife, let me tell you mate that it is no better in Sydney! I first bought a BMW bike in 2002 and the service was great....its not so good now. I really think they need to pick their game up or they will lose their market share. In fact as an old Suzuki DR rider I very nearly bought a V Strom 650 as I know they are reliable and I can get it serviced in Bourke (but just a bit too much fairing for a dual purpose bike...maybe next time!).

I'm waiting for the bikes to arrive in the U.S. to only wait a while longer to have mne forwarded to Venezuela... :blast

My dealer got their demo 800 on Saturday. My understanding is that most dealers did. Surely it can't be too long before we see the first ones for sale? (I'm number two at my dealer).

Demo bikes have arrived in Australia

Ok, dropped into Oakleigh BMW, Vic, Australia at 5.25 this arvo. The Black/Gray 800 was in prime possi out front. Thank god i have finally seen one in the flesh.

I was so excited as I sat at the lights across the road. Was reving my bike willing the lights to change. BUT when i got on foot i was not as excited as expected. I guess that i have seen too many on this forum to get excited.

I know that you have all seen this before, but here are 2 pix 'I TOOK';

got a test ride booked in this Wed arvo (already road the 650 and lifted the front wheel a little)

I was surpries that they are letting people ride it before the weekend. "If i bin it what are you going to show people this coming weekend?" i asked. I am sure that the crowds are going to be out in force to put their deposits down this coming weekend.

Side question, who wants one, but does not have a deposit down? (I have been waiting for this bike since 1-10-07 with a deposit down in July 08) Just wondering if they will be able to fill all orders before release

import permit

I'm waiting for the bikes to arrive in the U.S. to only wait a while longer to have mne forwarded to Venezuela... :blast

Hello alex. can't PM you, so I'll ask you here. How is your importer doing to import the bike if MILCO doen't issue import permits for vehicles for the last 60 days... Is there a side door? or an inside information when MILCO's site will be operative again?
