WIRING A GARMIN 500 TO BIKE

I HAVE JUST JOINED THIS SITE AND LOOKS GREAT.
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A BMW R1150 GS AND ITS GREAT I NEED TO WIRE THE GPS GARMIN 500 TO THE BIKE
HOW THE HELL DO I DO THIS?
 
I used one of these :thumb
Red wire to the centre pin, black wire to the outer connector.

but where is the socket

if your power socket is near the starter, the lead would look a mess! I usually run the power lead behind the instruments, under the tank direct to the battery, you can usually do this without removing the fuel tank. Also, if you want sound, a 3.5 extension lead from maplins is a cheap safe option. Also run under the tank, comes out between tank and seat.
