Another newbe

Hello all

looks like an informative site so i joined to research info on gs's before potential purchase of a r1200gs either new or almost new, if i go ahead it will be my first venture into bmw bikes, presently got a vfr750 and xr400.
Anything particular pitfalls on the gs I should be aware of?
What sort of discounts / packages if any are available new
