I'm still running City Nav V9 on my Quest/2610.

Is it worth updating do you reckon ?

Was tempted to replace 2610 but haven't seen anything better-certainly not a Zumo 550,as read more problems than praise about it.

The only minor quibble I have with 2610 is that it gets a bit of moisture in it on occasion and sometimes loses the on-screen data and needs one press to return the data.

Other than that it's served me well and was a bargain at £160.

Martin,

I still have my 2610 and a Zumo 550 and it is the latter I take everytime. It does miss some features of the 2610 but overall I think it is way better. Only ever lost reception in tunnels with the Zumo but the 2610 used to lose it in most cities. Wide boulevards were OK but it didn't do concrete canyons very well.
My wife uses the 2610 sometimes as she is used to it, if it wasn't for that I would sell it. Looks like the Zumo 660 is another step backwards :nenau

Thanks Bob.

The cheapest I can find a Zumo 550 for is £336 inc P &P for Amazon.

I think I'll just get this new map update and keep the 2610/Quest another year.

But the Quest struggles already with only 256 mb memory and I suppose the new City Nav will take up more space than before.

But I only use it for shorter journeys normally so don't need many maps downloaded, unlike the 2610 with it's 2gb card.

i miss my 2610, but my current gpsmap60csx is way better at holding signal, and can be configured to show exactly what i want on screen. it's just a pity that screen is so small. it's a cracking little device, but i bought it at exactly the same time i started needing reading glasses :blast

i was thinking of buying a zumo, but it appears to me to be a unit aimed at gps numpties,m and somewhat unreliable to boot.

i'd hang on to your 2610.

My thoughts exactly.

The 2610 hardly ever loses it's signal.

The only niggles,as mentioned above is that it can develop a small patch of misting in the middle of the screen in extreme weather-which dries out again, and also when it's a bit damp, the on screen data disappears and you have to press one of the buttons to get it back.

But it still works faultlessly apart from that.

Only downside is lack of internal battery.

Currently only the GSA is wired up for the 2610 but I'll need to do same for 950SE if i take it on Magnum's Alps trip in September.

I use my good old Quest 1 on other bikes without power supply fitted but that will be a bit limited on the Alps trip as the 256mb limit will not cope with the number of maps I need-plus with each update, the maps files get bigger and bigger !!

Something like a Superquest with internal battery and 2gb SD card would be perfect.

I don't like the interface of the Zumo as much.

i had high hopes for the Colorado and Oregon models. not seen one working, and not heard much encouraging about them either :nenau

And Garmin are now doing lifetime updates for a one-off payment, but only on Zumo/Nuvi models.

Details here
It'll be interesting to know if these are available as an option, at a reduced price, when buying a new unit or only afterwards.

Had a look at myGarmin account for my 8 month old Zumo, and it was an option for me. Pity I bought CN 2009 a month earlier
Sorry, what I meant was will it be offered as an upgrade to the mapping that comes with a new GPS. i.e. GPS comes with City Nav Europe but, for say £50 extra, you get the lifetime option. I know it would knock their profit later on but would help sales of new units over the competition.

i suspect many owners buy a new unit with new mapping before they update the existing maps, which are good for years if you're not too fussy.

Tempting, but just checked online for my Zumo 550 in the myGarmin section, and it only gives the option of Numaps OneTime :nenau
