No mate, it's the home of the Pork Pie, Asda sticks pickle in them :)

Melton Mowbray pork pie
The Melton Mowbray Pork Pie uses uncured meat, giving the meat in a Melton pie a grey colour. Hand formed with no mould, a Melton Mowbray pie also commonly has a hand-formed crust. This style of production gives the Melton Mowbray pie a slightly irregular in shape form after baking, as with any hand-made pie.

In light of the premium price of the Melton Mowbray pie, the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association applied for protection under the European "Protected designation of origin" laws as a result of the increasing production of Melton Mowbray style pies by large commercial companies in factories far from Melton Mowbray, and recipes that deviated from the original uncured pork form. Protection was granted on 4 April 2008.

:D

Must try harder

Whatton - it looks like you've skipped the B664, taking the A6003 to Uppingham. The B664 is definitely worth a go, just watch out for mud on the roads.

You'll have to do it again!:beerjug:

Try this link for a good 60 mile run on fast but twisty A&B roads.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&s...=52.653062,-0.84938&spn=0.26659,0.617981&z=11

You can get a good lunch at any number of pubs on the way through.

Try the Neville Arms in Medbourne for the best onion rings ever.

Is there a way of printing the Google map out at a fair size WITHOUT the written direction??

I want to pass it onto a non GPs owning buddy ..... it maybe able to work out a new 'run' from the pics :D

Least Fiddly way:

Get the map shown as you would like on the screen and then press SHIFT+Print Scr button. Open Word or similar and paste into new document. Crop the screen image that is pasted there to suit and press print!

or you could print the directions from google maps and include a large map. Cut this out and hey presto!

Technology has never beaten a pair of scissors yet!

Re-done the route, going to give it a go tomorrow, cheers :thumb2

Did the route today arriving in Melton (for the first time) about 6:45. Was pretty foggy and rained a bit but apart from that it was great. Road between Uppingham and Market Harborough is a bit narrow but apart from that ita all good.. Worked out about 150 miles with route and getting to Melton from home and back.
