Had a short trip across to France and the Western Front to see the graves of two of our relatives both killed in 1915.

The first was Claire's Granny's older brother, Timothy O'Leary who was a regular Army serjeant in the Royal Irish Rifles and who is buried in the Guards Cemetery at Cuinchy near Béthune.

The second was to visit the small cemetery at La Chapelle d'Armentières at Desplanque Farm where my Grandfather's cousin Charles Devall is buried.

I saw on here a while back something about a logging system called POI66 and tried that for the first time properly yesterday, so that when I lead a load of bikes across to Upres I can log the trip.

Rather than type it all up here again, the link is: http://www.poi66.com/maps/show_album.php?album=devallwargravetrip

http://www.cwgc.org/search/cemetery_details.aspx?cemetery=2000097&mode= 1 found the name on a photo this web site tells about it there's two 1 and 2 of the big ones and a load more around the area but we didn't have time to check them all out (only on a day trip )but will be going back next time for a longer look. hope this helps

You were on the western edge of the Somme battlefield at Serre. If you head back north along the D919 passing Serre No.1 & the French cemetery there is a track leading to the left alongside the roadside wood. That heads up to Sheffield Memorial Park which is well worth a visit :thumb2

I'll bear all that in mind when I go across again the the Somme side of things.

Next week, the 19th, I am leading a trip across to the Ypres Salient and have selected a few "big" places to stop and a few personal ones for those that are going from my local club.

We're on the 0800 Sea France from Dover if anyone wants to join us. Have the garmin gdb routes available.
