I currently have a DRZ 400 S which i do green laning with. I am very happy with it but the other day whilst going to buy my new helmet from a local bike shop i saw a DRZ 400E in there which is very tidy.
What are the main differences between the two models as i am sure they would consider a straight swap ? Would their be anything to be gained by changing to this other model, for what i want to use it for ??

My E has electric start too.

Plus I believe the E as a pukka enduro used to have better forks than the S and then they started fitting the same forks to the S.

the S forks are the same GOOD ones as the E

DR-Z400 is kickstart. DR-Z400E is electric start. The Clymer manual for the DR-Z400 details the differences betweem DR-Z400/E/S quite well. Google it, theres a scanned PDF out there on the web somewhere.
