Hi to all at UKGSer

I'm new to the quirky world of BMW ownership.

The Bike:- R1200GS, 54 plate 9,000 miles on the clock. Bought it privately 3 weeks ago in excellent condition, except for a small amount of corrosion around the clutch. Common fault so I read.

I have considered buying one for sometime but a 300 mile rideout on my VFR a month ago with a mate who has a GS started me off on the search for a GS I could call my own. The rideout was a round trip from Cardiff to Dolgellau via Newtown and Welshpool. Some great touring roads. The previous day I did 180 miles to get a an Icecream in Aberaeron. Too much time on my hands that weekend. Never have been one for short rides.

My Bikes: Honda VFR 750 FV; Honda Africa Twin, Suzuki DR400 (1980 old thumper with decompressor)

The GS is supposed to replace the AT but I'm finding it hard to let it go as it's such a great bike. The GS is superior in the power dep't which makes over takes a lot easier.

Went to Cornwall on the weekend and the 500 mile trip gave me a chance to explore the abilities of the GS and my lack of them. I was surprised how well it hides it weight and was more than a match for the trip and the full compliment of luggage which included my rock climbing gear.

It grows on you quickly but the boxer twin does have its own character especially going down the box and something similar to a friends Massey Ferguson.

Trips:- Spain on VFR and France twice and Northern Ireland once on the AT.

Bike Porn:- Generally its Ride mag as the other mags are too sports bike orientated (IMHO). I don't need the latest version from japan with 160 bhp and the same numbers in KGs to put a grin on my face. I get that from the scenery and pure pleasure of the open road and two wheels. You can keep your cross plane cranks and mass centalisation thank you. Each to his own I guess.:blah blah:blah blah

Hope I haven't caused any offence on my first post.

Well thats me

Thanks. Happy to be here and more than happy to share experiences. Just passionate about bikes and trips.
